Kitchen Hutch

I absolutely love my kitchen hutch. It may be my most favorite piece I have. This is not the hutch that I painted green. This is the bigger hutch that was my Grandma's and was brown wood. I had wanted to paint it ever since I got it, but couldn't decide what color. I decided on white and am so glad I did. I also sanded it around the edges to give it a distressed look. I am already looking forward to decking it out for the fall and Christmas. I know y'all can relate to that! Hope y'all are having a great week. My son started Pre-K yesterday so I have had to cope with that...did some worrying and crying, but I am much better today. See ya soon!

Yes, I Am Still Alive!!!

Yes, I am still alive and well! Thank you to all you sweet gals who have checked up on me and I am so sorry I have totally neglected my blog for the past 6 1/2 months. I am not going to make any promises about when my next post will be 'cause I know how I am. But, I have been doing lots of decorating and redoing as always so I should have lots to show you. Here's a quick little project I did recently (well, hubby did) that is hanging in my kitchen. I got my sweety to cut off the back of an old ladderback chair I had and hung it on the wall by a jute string. I have a kitchen towel on it and am looking for something else to add, like a small sign. I need to look through my inspiration file and find something to make. Hope y'all have a great week! Recovered Yard Sale Chair and Placemat Pillow

The chair, rooster fabric, placemat, and pillow were all bought at yard sales last year. Love projects like this that are cheap and I already have the supplies I need. From Red to Green

Well, I painted my kitchen hutch red and didn't like it at all. I'm sure I could have gone to the store and gotten a better red and it may have turned out o.k., but I decided to go a different route and paint it with some apple green paint I had. I painted and then aged it with some glaze and am really happy with it now. The color looks much better in person than in these pictures. Now comes the fun part - decorating it!

Kitchen Hutch Going Red

Do you ever have an idea pop in your head and don't really even think it through and just start going at it? Well, that's what happened to me about 30 minutes ago. I quickly emptied the drawers of the hutch, took off the hardware, and have been outside in the cold and wind spray painting it red. We'll see if I like it or not...hope I do. But, as we smart bloggers all know, it's just paint!

Polka Dot Runner

I am really trying to get my decorating mojo back. It has taken me a while to get back into decorating after putting up all my Christmas stuff. I love polka dots, especially black and white, so I made (hot glued) this runner for my kitchen table out of some fabric I already had. It makes me smile when I walk in the room. Kitchen Table Tree

I bought this metal tree at a yard sale this past summer. It was silver and rusted so I spray painted it lime green. I was going to make some initial ornaments for it, but found these adorable ones at Hobby Lobby for only 50 cents each (they were half off) and bought some to represent the first letter of each family member's name (me, my husband, our son, and our 2 dogs). They are so perfect since they are red and lime green with polka dots. Hope y'all had a wonderful Thanksgiving yesterday and are having a great day today. No shopping for me today...staying at home and doing more decorating and some much needed cleaning!

I'm Back!

I can't believe my last post was on Oct. 7th! No reason, just get busy with life and don't feel like posting, ya know? I wanted to show y'all my new love - my white pedestal kitchen table. I love it! I have been wanting one for a long time and found it in a shop for $59 which I thought was pretty cheap. It is an old one that has been painted. I am planning on sanding it some to distress it more. I am using the same chairs I have had for several years. I made some new curtains out of a red paisley and a red and white checked fabric from Joanns with some polka dot ribbon as the seam between the 2 fabrics. You know me - gotta have my red! Another change I have made in here is the white hutch. I'll talk about it another day and show you more pics of it. Enjoy the rest of your day!

New Runner and Urn in Dining Room

There were tons of yard sales this past Sat. and I got some great deals. Two things I bought were this Waverly toile runner for $1 and this urn for $1. $7 Yard Sale Dresser

I got this cute little antique dresser for $7 at a yard sale a few weeks ago. I put in in my bedroom at first and then decided to bring it in the kitchen so I could see and enjoy it more. The bottom part of the hutch that was in this spot is in my laundry room and the top is in the attic. I'm sure you'll be seeing it again some time in the future. My mom said she may want to use it for awhile. The dresser already had this aged green finish so I am leaving it like it is for now. I try to avoid painting if I can 'cause it is a pain! The mirror was gone so I bought this fall fabric today at HL and just hot glued the edges onto a piece of cardboard and stapled it to the back of the frame. I am planning to change out the fabric for Christmas and whenever I want. A very cheap and easy project which is what I love! I am trying to come up with some kind of arrangement over it and on the sides. Not sure if the bunny tray is staying or not. It may go somewhere else. Moving/Selling/ Buying Questions for You

I have some questions for y'all, my very smart and house savvy blogging friends. We are considering moving (in the same city) and since I have only done this one time before (selling a house and buying another one) I want some feedback on how the process should go. We have looked at a few houses, but I can't really get into it because we would have to sell our house before buying another and it isn't even up for sale yet. Do we go ahead and put it up for sale and see what happens? Not look at houses until we think we may actually sell ours? Go ahead and find some possible houses we want and just hope and pray they are still available when we can buy one? I am so afraid we'll find a house and then can't get it because ours won't sell fast enough. How do you get the timing right so it all works out? Just do a lot of praying?!

Changing my Kitchen Hutch Again

Y'all know me...always changing something around in my kitchen, especially Grandma's old hutch. I decided to take the top off and put it away for awhile and just use the bottom part. Not sure if I'll keep it decorated like this, but I love it with the 2 lamps. I may change the fabric on the window and the runner. I just decorated it quickly with what I had handy. I was also thinking of hanging some plates around the bunny tray. It is so fun making easy changes with stuff I already have. Y'all know that 'cause you do it too! My Patio Canopy

Hey y'all! So sorry I have been such a bad blogger lately. No reason really, just kind of blah and too lazy to do a post I guess. I wanted to show you my new patio canopy we got recently on clearance at Target. I have been enjoying having some shade to sit under and read or just relax. It is nice to come out here at night and I love when it rains and I can sit under it. My husband strung up some Christmas lights around the inner top edge and it is so pretty when it is on a night. Adding a Flower to a Lampshade

I recovered this shade a while back in burlap and used black ribbon as the trim, but felt like it was too plain (I don't do plain folks, as you probably know) and needed something else. So, I opened up my craft/junk closet yesterday and saw this red flower and got an idea. I took the stem off and hot glued it on and a cute new shade is born. Not plain anymore!

Board and Batten Shutters

My husband surprised me on my birthday last week by making these board and batten shutters for my kitchen window. I had talked to him about it a while back, but had really kind of scrapped the idea and forgotten about it. Well, he remembered and made them. Doesn't that just mean so much when your man actually listens to you and wants to make you happy? I got me a good one for sure. I think I am finally satisfied with the color, but I may still glaze them some. I painted them a light green first and didn't really like it. Then I tried a darker green and didn't really like it either. Then I dry brushed the light green on top of the darker green and got the somewhat aged look I like. I am not good with paint finishes like some of y'all are. I am not patient and just want to finish. I think they are pretty cute and it feels so cozy sitting there at the table. Red and White Checked Pillow

I decided we needed a 5th pillow on the couch to add to the ones we have to move when we want to sit down so I brought in this red and white checked one from our bedroom. I absolutely LOVE checked fabric, especially red and white, so I am enjoying seeing it every time I walk through the living room which is like 50 million times a day. Yard Sale Lamps

I bought this pair of lamps for $5 last Sat. at a yard sale. I really like the shape and size of them. I like the barrel shape of the shades too, but they are just too big so I found some shades at Target and covered them in some fabric from Joanns. Originally I was going to paint the lamps and then decided that I like the white and the wheat motif and am going to leave them the way they are. I am really liking how interesting vintage lamps are and am going to be on the lookout for more of them. I love them on this piece in my living room and am enjoying the extra light they give to this area of the room. There are lots of yard sales tomorrow and I am looking forward to finding more treasures...like I need more stuff! Have a wonderful weekend!

Harlequin Wrapping Paper in My Hutch

I have had this harlequin wrapping paper since last year, Christmas I think, when I bought it at Hobby Lobby. It has been sitting in my closet waiting to be used on a project. Manuela at The Pleasures of Homemaking (LOVE her blog, address is thepleasuresofhomemaking.blogspot.com) used it on the back of a piece in her dining room a while back and I decided to do the same. I am thrilled with how it looks! It is just taped on there. I like to change things so I didn't want it too permanent. I also hung 2 rooster pictures beside it that I got on clearance at Kirklands several months ago. I am working on something I am going to hang on each side of that kitchen window. Hope it turns out the way I want. I'll be sure to show you when I'm finished. Have a wonderful Wed.! Yard Sale Finds

I can't believe it has been 3 weeks since I have posted anything! I usually try to at least once or twice a week. I have been doing some projects here and there, but just haven't gotten around to taking pictures and sharing them. My mom and I went to some yard sales on Sat. and I am happy with what I got. I love botanicals and got the 3 below for $3. The small city scene print was 10 cents, the bunny was $1, and the cabbage plates (a chip and dip set maybe?) were $2. I got 2 lamps also that I am in the process of redoing the shades and will show them this week. I just need to get some trim for them. Hope y'all had a great weekend. Happy Monday to you!

Adding White to my Hutch

I love to change what I have on my kitchen hutch and decided to add some white stuff to it for a lighter, more cottagey look. I think white or cream pitchers are so cute and usually buy them when I find them for cheap, like a few dollars or less. I got together some I had around and put them together like a collection. An Adorable Sunroom

I was looking through one of my decorating books (Better Homes and Gardens Before and After Decorating Makeovers) and came across this absolutely adorable sunroom. I have had this book for a long time and I think these few pages were pretty much the whole reason I bought it. I love everything about this space. The mix of all the fabrics is what really makes the room, in my opinion. That red and white checked chair just makes me swoon. The room is so bright and cheerful and I would love to spend time in here. I would say it has a cottage garden feel, but also some French country too. Oh goodness, I am feeling the itch to do a makeover coming over me!!!

Free Chandelier as Yard Art

Backdoor Decor

This blue chair bought at a yard sale has been in my attic for several years. I wanted something different at my backdoor (which is our main entrance) so I got it down, painted it red, and now it holds a watering can with some flowers in it. It looks pretty cute if I do say so myself. I also leaned an old shutter behind it that I painted apple green. I am enjoying seeing it when I walk in and out the door. I love when I can change an area and just use things I already have! Don't you?! Hope you have a great day!

New Arrangement above Dry Sink

I hung this clock and plates over my dry sink in the dining room. It needed something since I moved the other big clock from here into the kitchen on my new stove hood. I already had everything and am pretty happy with the arrangement. Don't look too close 'cause the plates may not be exactly hung the same on each side. It is such a pain to try to hang several things and get them even. I never seem to get it just right, but hopefully I am the only one who notices. Some people asked about how my husband built the stove hood and I don't want you to think I am ignoring you. I am going to do a post about it soon. Have a terrific Tuesday y'all!

Some Good Deals

I got some good deals yesterday at Hobby Lobby and Target. I bought the 3 plaques/pictures in the 80% off HL clearance for $9.63 with tax. Not bad for 3 cute pieces! Target has their plastic dinnerware 30% off (it's already cheap) and I got 2 green plates, 2 yellow plates, and 2 red cups for around $4. I put them on my little table on my patio and plan on just leaving it set like this. I already had the red and white checked salad plates. I hate that I haven't been posting much. There hasn't been too much decorating and creativity happening lately. Hope you have had a great week and will have a fabulous weekend!!!

Floral Tole Tray

I showed y'all this floral tole tray I got for $1 at a yard sale several weeks ago. I was thrilled and want more like this one with the black background. I have seen them hung on a wall as a collection in magazines and think they are just beautiful. I decided to hang it with my chalkboard (made out of a old frame I painted white) over the bench in my dining room. I am liking it for now, but I do change things around so it may end up in my kitchen in the future. Hope y'all are having a great week and staying cool. It is hot where I live - close to 100 degrees and VERY humid! But, that's all part of living here in the deep South. My hubby finally set up our pool yesterday so I'll probably have to take a dip in it this afternoon. Happy Tuesday to you!

New Vent Hood

I am so excited to show y'all the new vent hood my wonderful husband made for me. It may be my most favorite project he has ever done. You can see there were 2 small cabinet doors over the stove before. He took them off and used beadboard and molding to cover the metal hood and cabinet openings. He redid the electrical stuff so now the buttons for the fan and light are on the right hand side. I aged it with glaze like the beadboard backsplash. I know my cabinets are white and not aged too, but I like the contrast and wanted the hood to stand out and look old. I moved my new clock out of the dining room and have it leaning on the ledge of the hood. It definitely makes a statement 'cause it is so large. I will have fun changing out what I put up there like a tray, picture, wreath, iron piece...lots of possibilities. Hope y'all are having a great week!

Poppy Plates

I got these 2 poppy plates from TJ Maxx today. Love them! TJ Maxx and Ross have the cutest plates and for cheap too. These were $2.99 each. New Clock

I bought this clock the other day at Hobby Lobby to put in my dining room. I really like it, but it doesn't look near as big on this wall as it looked in the store. I think I may hang something on either side to fill up the space more or maybe hang some plates around it. I'll have to look through my stash of stuff and see what I come up with. Kitchen Stuff

Here are a few pictures of the beadboard backsplash that my husband aged with some glaze. I like it sooooo much better than the bright white. He still has to do the part on the other wall, but we have to move a TV, toaster oven, and microwave and just haven't gotten to it yet. I used a gold frame I had and painted a chalkboard on the backside of the painting that was in it and hung it on the beadboard. The frame was too gold for my taste so I dabbed on some black paint to darken it some. I also cut out 2 rooster pics from a calendar and put them in 2 frames I had. I like that the frames have a goldish look and are substantial looking. I may order some rooster prints I saw online, but am going to use these for now. Have a great Monday y'all!!!

Aging my Beadboard Backsplash

I got a wild hair today around lunchtime and decided to age my kitchen beadboard backsplash with this glaze. I started on the project and then my sweet hubby got involved and took over 'cause what he did looked much better than what I did. He had told me to do this a long time ago, but I didn't know what it would look like to have white cabinets and the stained backsplash. Well, I am loving it! It blends more with the countertops and the white was just too stark for me. I'll show you pics when we (well, really HE) gets done. Have a great night and a wonderful Wed.!

"Prettied Up" Lampshades

Well, the hutch is back in the kitchen until I decide what color to paint it. I am thinking a green or yellow color and then distressed and aged a lot with a glaze. I have seen furniture like that online and love how it looks. The question is will I be able to achieve that same look myself. I just can't do white. It is so clean looking and pretty, but I already have so much white here in the kitchen and really want the warm French country look. I would like to age my white cabinets, but am so scared they'll turn out looking dirty and gross. OK, back to the hutch. I bought these 2 lamps as a set at Kirklands, but didn't like the small brown shades that came on them. I got these 2 plain white shades at Ross for $1.99 each and knew I could recover them. Ross is a great place to get lampshades and they are usually like $5 or less. I hot glued on some fabric and trim I already had and love how they look now sitting on the hutch. A Chest of Drawers in the Kitchen?!

I have decided that Grandma's hutch that I have had here in my kitchen definitely needs to be painted. I took it out and it is now sitting in my dining room until I figure out what color I want and get the gusto to go ahead and do it. So...I moved this antique chest of drawers out of the dining room and into the kitchen where the hutch was to see what a white piece would look like. I am always saying how there is a lot of white in my kitchen (cabinets, backsplash, appliances, waincoting, table and chairs) and I really don't like that much white. But, then I saw this white piece in here and it looks like it belongs. I was thinking that I might should try to quit hating all the white and just embrace it and just have color in the fabric and accessories. Gotta have my color y'all, ya know? So I am leaning towards painting the hutch white. What do y'all think? I like the idea of black too, but I know dark things don't show up well on black. For now I am going to enjoy the chest of drawers in here. I think it looks pretty cute and I always enjoy something different. The corner needed something so I stuck that black shutter over there. I am trying to figure out what to do with it. I thought about painting it green, but my husband said he likes it black. Patio Set Makeover

I got this patio set as a wedding present when my husband and I got married, almost 13 years ago. I also have a baker's rack that matches it. I decided it needed to be spruced up so I spray painted it red and it looks like new now! I want a cute pot, maybe in lime green, and some flowers to put on the table instead of what I have on there now. I had to include 2 pictures of the star jasmine on my arbor that is going crazy. My husband has to trim it a lot to keep it somewhat under control and he know his weekly cutting is about to start. I love it though 'cause all the vines around the patio stay green all year long. Toile Chair Cover

I bought this Waverly toile chair cover last Sat. for $6 at an antique store that is going out of business. I thought it was a great deal and was excited to bring it back home and try it out. Right now it is in the dining room, but I am not sure if I'll leave it or put it in my kitchen on my desk chair. It needs to be thrown in the dryer or ironed to get the wrinkles out. I have the matching curtains that I did have up in here, but are put away at the moment. Hope y'all are having a wonderful week!

Birdcage Lamp

I went to a few antique stores recently and was so excited to find this birdcage stand for $20. I thought that was a pretty good price since I have seen them for way more than that. I intended to hang a chandelier from it, but then remembered the birdcage lamp my husband made. It used to be in my living room and got put up in the attic when I changed some things around. I got it down and hung it on the stand and am so happy with this cute new addition to my kitchen. I have got to get hubby to disguise the cord that hangs down. Cords are such a pain, aren't they? I usually turn the lamp on around suppertime and leave it on until I go to bed. I love seeing it on when the rest of the kitchen is dark. Love these Fake Hydrangeas

I am joining the party over at Southern Hospitality to share my thrifty finds I scored on Saturday. It was a great yard sale day and I am very happy with the things I bought. I spent a total of $24.75 on the things below. The most expensive was the fabric I got for $10 (last picture). Love the big checks! It is nice and heavy and there is lots of it. You'll be seeing it in the future, probably on some pillows, curtains, and who knows what else. I was thrilled to get the floral tole tray (first picture) for $1. I have been wanting one so bad. My New Favorite Spot

I think this is my new favorite little spot in my house. It sat empty for a while after Christmas when the tree came down and then I decided to move this dresser ($5 yard sale find) from the kitchen into the living room. I added the toile curtains last week and showed y'all the plates around the fleur de lis the other day. You can see I switched out the black and cream toile plates for the green bunny ones. Framed Initial in Foyer

Decoupaged Plates

I made these flower plates last night and am so happy with how they turned out. I used Mod Podge to glue pictures cut from a calendar and scrapbook paper onto the backs of clear plates. I didn't have to go out and buy anything. Love when that happens! I am going to have to stock up on these clear plates (from Walmart) so I can make more. Have a wonderful Wed. y'all!!!

Initial Canvas

Here is my new initial canvas I have hanging outside near my backdoor. As I showed you in yesterday's post, I moved the polka dot painted one to my front door for Easter and put a bunny on it. I went up in my attic and got down a canvas (found in someone's trash) and stapled fabric and a ribbon hanger to it and hot glued on the T. So easy and cheap! Hope you have a great Spring day!

"Eastery" Front Door

My Kitchen Desk Area

I thought I'd show you my kitchen desk area I've been working on since I showed you a little bit of it in my last post. I got this bulletin board last summer at a yard sale and it has been up in my attic. I got it down the other day and recovered it in some animal print fabric. I wedged it behind the footboard chalkboard (see project here) to hold it against the wall. It will soon be filled with all kinds of notes and pictures, but it is empty right now. I added a garage sale ladder back chair I spray painted black and a reversible pillow on it made out of a placemat. I changed out some things on the desk and on the walls. I'm pretty happy with it, but I love to change things around so I'm sure it will have different looks in the future. Hope y'all have a fun Friday and a great weekend!

Add Fabric to a Plate

I was looking for something to hang on a small space of wall next to my kitchen desk. I love to hang plates, so I got one out of my stash and cut out a piece of fabric and used a little hot glue to adhere it. Don't look too close 'cause it definitely is not perfect, but that's O.K. I'd never get any projects done if they had to be perfect. I have done this with scrapbook paper before, but now I know I can also create a "new" decorative plate with fabric too. Here is the window above my kitchen sink all "Springified". I spend A LOT of time in my kitchen so I guess that's why I am always decorating in here and do a lot of posts about this room. Hope you don't mind. Recently my sweet husband added some wood on this window ledge to make a wider shelf and I totally love it 'cause now I can have a lamp and other accessories up there. Before I just had a narrow ledge and it was hard to find things that would sit there and not fall off. I always love new places to add more STUFF! Another Lampshade Redo

I took the black and white toile off this lamp in my kitchen and recovered it in what is, in my opinion, one of the cutest fabrics I have ever seen. It is called Majolica and I have had it for a long time. I was going to make some kitchen valances with it, but never did. It has pictures of different majolica pieces on it. I decided to use the bunny one on the shade. I just cut it out, hot glued it and some trim on and I LOVE IT! Hope y'all have a fun Friday and a great weekend!

Basket Tray and Toile Chair

I got this basket tray at Joanns last week. I was excited to find it because I had been wanting one to use on my kitchen table. It will be changed a lot in the future so I'm sure you'll get sick of seeing it! I had recovered the seat on this extra chair in the dining room with some animal print fabric several months ago, but decided to change it again and use my favorite toile. I like it much better now. Spay Day 2010

Today is the Humane Society's annual Spay Day to remind people how important it is to spay or neuter your pets. THREE TO FOUR MILLION ANIMALS ARE EUTHANIZED EVERY YEAR IN THE U.S. Yes, that's 3-4 MILLION folks. That absolutely boggles my mind. These are animals that could have made great family members and companions, but had to die because they had no home. This reality breaks my heart so much and also makes me mad as heck 'cause a lot of these deaths could have been prevented if people had their animals spayed or neutered. I am not trying to offend anyone, but you are part of the problem if you allow your animals to breed, plain and simple. Also, when you make the decision to get an animal it should be for life. Like with a child, you have to give them all the love, attention, and care that they deserve. You don't get rid of them if they get too big, don't act they way you want them to, or cost you money that you don't want to spend. They depend on you and it is your responsibility to provide for them. Please watch the video below and if it doesn't convince you that you have to spay or neuter your pets, I don't know what will.

Doing Some Spring Decorating

I took down the Valentine's Day tree in my kitchen and put my topiary in its place. That tree has been in here since Sept. so I was glad to see it gone for a while. Two Plaque Transformations

I bought these two plaques from a yard sale last summer for 50 cents each I think. I also have one more I haven't done anything with yet. I spray painted the sides and then glued on some pictures from old calendars. I just dabbed a little hot glue on the corners. On the rooster one, you can see I cut him out and then used scrapbook paper as the background. I love cheap little projects like these that give me instant gratification. Here is my open cabinet with the red and white checked fabric in the back that I did Fri. night. It doesn't show up like the other swirly busy paper did, but I like it better. I need to get my husband to install some lights on the top 2 shelves or make it so I can put a little lamp on each shelf to brighten things up. I can always think of a new project! Polka Dot Heart on My Front Door

I have been seeing some cute hearts on people's doors around town so I decided to make one of my own. I drew a heart on a thin piece of scrap wood and my husband cut it out with the jigsaw. I painted it pink and drew dots and painted them red and white. Then I hot glued some black and white checked ribbon to hang it by and now I have a Valentine's Day decoration for my new front door. And the most wonderful thing is I only had to make one 'cause I have just one front door now, not two! Happy Monday to you!

A Little Friday Night Project

I am working on this little project tonight. I am taking the swirly wrapping paper (look at the top shelf) down and putting some red and white checked fabric (look at the second shelf) on the backs of the open cabinet in my kitchen. I was going to go out tomorrow and buy some new fabric, but looked through my stash and found some and decided to go ahead and use it. I would really love some pretty toile wallpaper, but everything I see online is way more than I want to spend. So I'll just use what I already have. Iron Piece on Kitchen Cabinet and Some Pretty Fabric

I added this iron piece on the cabinets below the countertop a while back (hope I haven't shared this already) where you walk into my kitchen from the living room. It just looked like something needed to be there. Some people might not want to put holes in their cabinets and I totally understand that, but I put holes where I want and don't worry about it.

I bought this pretty fabric yesterday to make some couch pillows out of it, but now I'm thinking of a kitchen window valance for the Spring/Summer. I love the colors!

Grandma's Old Hutch Finds a New Home

This old hutch that was my Grandma's has been in storage since 2004 when she passed away. I had always liked it and one day a few weeks ago decided to see if it might work in my kitchen. My Dad brought it over to my house and it fit perfectly and I love it! It has some great display space which is always good since I have lots of plates and accessories. It also has some much needed storage at the bottom which I can never have enough of. At first I thought that it HAS to be painted. But, I am kinda liking the warm wood color since I have so much white in here. I am going to keep it like it is for now. Plus, painting is a big pain and I am not in the mood to do it! I am already looking forward to putting out my cabbage plates and bunnies on it for Spring/Easter. My Mom told me that Grandma would be so pleased that I was using her hutch so that makes it extra special! Have a great Monday!

V. Day Stuff in My Little Kitchen Corner

I put some glittery hearts (bought at Joanns) in my apothecary jar and love blocks (bought at Ross) in my little kitchen corner to pretty it up for Valentine's Day. I also added a plate in one of my favorite patterns, Waverly fruit toile, to the beadboard backsplash 'cause that white space just needed some color. I gotta have pattern and color! Easy Little Plaque Redo

I got this little plaque at a yard sale for 25 cents. I see similar ones all the time and usually get them if they're really cheap 'cause they are so easy to redo. I spray painted it black and glued on some scrapbook paper, ribbon, and a rooster which was part of a pack I got at Michaels. I already had all that stuff so I didn't have to go out and buy anything which is always a good thing. I hung it on a kitchen cabinet to the right of my sink over a plate that was already there. I just can't get away from the rooster stuff. I still love it and I want to stick with the things that make me happy. Enjoy the rest of your day!

My New Front Door, a Look from Inside

I can't tell you how much I LOVE my new front door!!! The first picture is the only before one I could find. Double doors are fine and do look nice and dramatic, but I have always despised having to make 2 of anything I want to hang on the front. I also wanted to bring in more light and really open the foyer up. Well, we certainly accomplished that and more. I am thrilled with the pattern on the sidelites. Originally we were going to have a door with a window on it like the sidelites, but we decided to go with a solid door and I am so glad we did. I walk by and through my foyer all throughout the day and just smile 'cause it is brighter and even looks bigger. I'll show you the outside view when we get finished painting everything. Some Valentine's Day Stuff

Y'all might remember that I have had this tree in my kitchen since September. It has been dressed up for fall, Christmas, and now Valentine's Day. It has hearts and polka dot and striped balls on it and a bear on top my hubby gave me years ago, probably before we were married. I am loving it! I put some greenery and hearts in my little white pitcher y'all have seen many times. I bought a new rooster hook for it to hang from.

Two of my friends and I got together yesterday and made some Valentine's Day decorations. We made banners using scrapbook paper and a Cricut machine. I am so happy with how mine turned out! I have it hanging on my kitchen sink window right now. It doesn't look too good with those yellow pears so I may have to change that. I got down my V. A Few Additions in the Kitchen

Here are a few things I have recently added to my kitchen. I got 2 cute rooster canvases from Bealls and put one here on the countertop. I'm not sure where I'll put the other one. I put my cooking utensils in a gold urn I had. I bought the iron piece (Hobby Lobby) and the little pot of herbs (Michaels) on Sat. and have them over the stove. I am trying to switch out some things to make my home look a little nicer and more sophisticated, but still keep a French country look. That's the look I love, but I don't always achieve it! As for my new front door, it did get installed and I am totally loving all the light it brings into the foyer. I'll show you when I get it all painted which will hopefully be this week. Bye-Bye Double Front Doors!

This is what is going on at my house on this very cold day today. I am getting my Christmas present installed - a new front door! I am finally getting rid of my double doors and getting one door with decorative sidelites. It has always been such a pain to have to have/make 2 of everything to decorate the front doors and I am thrilled to have ONE door now! Kitchen Window - Again!

Y'all are gonna be so sick of seeing my kitchen eating area and are probably wondering if I can ever make up my mind about the window treatment. I have always had a valance up there and never tried long curtains. Well, I put these up there and LOVED them! It was like instant warmth and coziness which is what I love, especially during the winter. These curtains are actually a sheet I made into a shower curtain and has been in our master bath for years. I love the fabric! I cut down the middle and now have 2 panels. I am not even sure I am going to sew the edge because you can't even tell. If I want it really sewed my mom will have to do it. My version of sewing is using my trusty hot glue gun. You can't see the bottoms in the picture, but I am going to have to add some fabric because they are too short. I still have my tree in here as you can see. I took the ornaments off today. I think I am going to leave it and decorate it for Valentine's Day and maybe Easter too. I may just leave it up and never take it down! It is not in the way and I love having the lights on. Hope your weekend was great and that your Monday will be too!

I'm Back and Changing Things Around, Of Course

Hope y'all had a wonderful Christmas like I did! It was so much fun this year since my son is getting older (2 and a half) and into the whole excitement of it all. I have taken down a few things in the kitchen, but all the trees and other decorations are still up. I'll start getting serious about taking it down in a few days. I promised myself I would be more organized this year about packing the stuff up and label boxes so I don't have to keep opening them up to see what's inside. I am always changing things around as a lot of you can relate to. I seem to change my kitchen the most, I guess 'cause it's the easiest room to do. I took down the black and white checked valance in my office/guest bedroom and put it in the kitchen. I bought 2 black and white plates at HL and put them on my plate rack with a rooster plate in the middle. Not sure I am liking it as good as I do my red toile. I always do this - think I want a change and then don't like it as much as the way I had it before and change it back again. But, I love doing it so it's o.k. Hope y'all have a terrific Tuesday!

A Little Christmas in My Office/Guest Bedroom

Here are the Christmas decorations I have in my office/guest bedroom. I couldn't decide what to put on the little tree so I just cut strips of ribbon and tied them to the top. The polka dot fabric on the dresser is actually a window valance I made. I just laid it on the dresser to act as a runner. Hope everyone has a fantastic Friday! It is cold and rainy here and I am just enjoying being inside the house with all the Christmas lights on. I might even try to accomplish something today like wrapping a few presents. That would be a change since I usually wait till a day or two before Christmas to wrap!

Christmas in My Living Room

Here are the Christmas decorations I have in my living room. I apologize for the poor quality of some of the pictures. There are dark areas in here and it's hard to get good pics. My husband has always wanted to have colored lights and I always do white lights. Well, this year I put colored lights in here and love them! I brought my polka dot T canvas I made a while back in from the outside and hung it on an old window on the mantle. I put my tree in the same fabric covered box from last year. I put a chair beside the tree with a few presents in a basket. I don't usually wrap my gifts until right before Christmas. The stockings on the shutter and the one on the chair are ones I made by just hot gluing fabric and ribbon on $1 felt cheapies from Walmart. A Few Christmas Additions in the Kitchen

I added a few more Christmas things in the kitchen yesterday. I don't know when to stop! I bought this styrofoam candy cane and put it on a wreath I had and hung it in the window over the sink. I also added 2 more Dollar Tree red trees on the ledge. I saw the idea for the lights in the Mason jars in a magazine a long time ago and had always wanted to try it. I put them in a yard sale white bowl and added some red and green beads. O.K., maybe I am finished decorating the kitchen...MAYBE. Happy Monday to you!

Here is my kitchen eating area with its Christmas decor. I probably enjoy the tree in here more than any other room because it seems we spend a lot of time in the kitchen. The fourth picture shows the chair covers I made out of some fabric that is lime green with candy canes on it. These were made by me pressing down seams and hot gluing them. Very easy! I don't really know a good way to explain it. I used some scrap fabric and made one before I made these to make sure my measurements were right and it would slip down over the chair back. It is basically a pillowcase. They are not professional looking by any means, but that's O.K. 'cause they cost hardly nothing and I may not even want to use them next year. I like to do different things each year. I am off to bed so goodnight and have a wonderful Thursday!

Decorating Your Lamps

An easy thing I like to do to add some Christmas around is to embellish my lamps with things like ornaments, ribbon, and even a chalkboard like in the first picture. I love details like this. This little white pitcher hangs on a hook on the cabinet by my kitchen sink. I think I may have talked about this before so sorry if I have. I just love it because it' so easy to change out for each season. I had a sunflower in it for the fall and now you can see it is Christmasy with some greenery, a lollipop pick, an ornament, and some ribbon. Cute pieces like this just make me happy, ya know? A Christmas Arrangement

I am getting my Christmas decorating done a little each day and will hopefully be pretty much finished by Thanksgiving, but I'm not holding my breath. This is what I put on top of the refrigerator. I bought 2 bags of these red glittery sticks at Kirklands (still have a lot left) and really like the height they give to an arrangement. I also have greenery and red balls stuck in the basket and I added a bow around my rooster's neck. Gotta keep my roosters on display and have them decked out too! I found this cute polka dot fabric at Joanns and wanted to use it in my kitchen. So, I hot glued it and some ribbon to a shade I took off a lamp in my bedroom. The shade is now on a lamp on my kitchen table on a tray (made from a picture frame) with some greenery and a snowman. I just love the whimsical polka dots! Have a great Monday everybody!

Here is another little Christmas plate project I did today. I painted a wooden star I had, put a couple of scrapbook stickers and a bow on it, and hot glued it to a plate. I also covered the tray behind the plate with some scrapbook paper. Actually I had put the ribbon and some fabric on the tray a while ago for another project and I just taped this Christmasy looking paper over the fabric. I change things a lot so I don't usually make things that are permanent. Hope you are all having a great day!

Easy Christmas Ornament Plates

I found these felt Christmas ornaments last week at Hobby Lobby and had to have them. I just love the red and lime green together! They came in a package of 12 (6 of each) and were $6.99 and then half off. You know me, I like really quick and easy projects. So, all I did was hot glue them to some white plates I had and hung them in my kitchen. Right now I have a vintage looking tray I got at a yard sale in the middle on the plate rack, but I am not really crazy about it so I may paint it. Yes, it is only Nov. 11th, but I am already decorating for Christmas. I like to start early and just take my time doing a little here and there when I have the chance. I am having fun!!! I have been wanting to incorporate more green into my decor so I decided to get out all my green dishes and put them around in my kitchen. I hung some plates and put some of the other stuff in my open cabinet. I am always on the lookout for more pieces to get. I have some of the Bordallo pieces, but I don't really care about the name brand. I just want a pretty shade of green. I am also trying to find another wrapping paper or either some wallpaper to redo the backs of the cabinet. I have never really been happy with this Christmas wrapping paper I used because it is so busy. That will be on my list of projects and that list is very long. I'm sure y'all can relate to that. New Window Valance in Bathroom

I made this valance last night for our bathroom. And by made I am talking using the hot glue gun, not the sewing machine. I've had a thing lately for animal print so you'll be seeing it on some future projects I'm sure. I like the funkiness (is that a word?) it gives to things. I know lots of folks will say that red and white check fabric and animal print ribbon just don't match. And...not they don't, but I think it looks cool. Hope y'all have a wonderful Wednesday! Looking forward to going to a fall festival at church tonight with my husband and son!
